Who's a hillbilly then?

It just occured to me, if the current archbishop of Sydney (Matt 23:6,7) is able to call fellow believers who take the historic position on Genesis 1 'hillbillies', (in a Sydney Morning Herald article a few years ago, as I recall: I'll try to get the source for all my fascinated readers) then I guess he must realise that he lumps his teacher Broughton Knox under that label.

Interesting, I'd never thought of that wonderful man of God as a hillbilly. Still, I'm always prepared to find that others know better than me.

I spent a significant period of time searching Google for any comment that resembled what you say and I could find nothing.

Back up your claims or shut them up.

Dr Peter Jensen, principal of Sydney's Moore Theological College, shares fears about the state of the Anglican Church of Australia. He is restive about the usual fundamentalist epithet thrown at the Sydney diocese. He says the term derived from a defence of orthodox Christianity but, unfortunately, an impression grew that fundamentalists are anti-intellectual.

Defending Sydney and his college from such attitudes, he suggests that in the US "the fundamentalist badge was worn with pride by some Christians and may have represented an anti-intellectual and somewhat hillbilly type of person". Jensen says not only is the term pejorative but many people think fundamentalism "uses the Bible in a literalistic way, adheres to right-wing politics and creation science, and practises excessive zeal".

Craig,

How did we know you'd say that?

For a person who thinks his zodiac sign is a part of a Christian walk and that martial arts is Christ like, such irrationality re Jensen's hillbilly comment is consistent.
